The trophy is competed for by teams of seven from the Ladies Parliamentary Golf Association (LPGA), the Ladies Medical Golf Society, the United Services Ladies Golf Association (USLGA) and the Ladies Legal Golf Association. All matches are played off scratch so each society hopes to field its strongest players.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\u0022font-size: 20px;\u0022\u003eSadly this year the LPGA was unable to field a team and since the Legals were due to play the ‘Parlies’ in the morning they were given a bye into the final in the afternoon. The USLGA and the Medics battled it out in the morning with the Medics winning four matches and the other three close matches being called in.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\u0022font-size: 20px;\u0022\u003eSo the Legals met the Medics in the final. Amelia led out the team and managed a 6/5 victory over her opponent, Debbie and Ali both won on the 16th,\u0026nbsp;and Jo Thesiger halved her match on the 18\u003csup\u003eth\u003c/sup\u003e. The other 3 matches all went to the 18\u003csup\u003eth\u003c/sup\u003e hole but the Medics won all three. So the match was a draw and was decided on the number of holes won. The four 7 a-side teams are the United Services Ladies Golfing Association, Senior Women’s Golfing Association, Ladies Medical Golfing Society and the LLGA. Players need to have a handicap index of 10.5 or above although the match is off scratch and so players usually have low- to mid-teen handicaps. The course was in great condition given the wet winter and having had a big spring maintenance programme. Our team played well, won 4 matches convincingly, lost only 1 and the other 2 were called in. After a lunch of soup and sandwiches, the team went out to do battle against the winners of the other morning match, the SWGA. By this time it had clouded over and during the afternoon became very chilly. Our ladies put up a tremendous fight, and the match was 3-3 after 6 results. The final match was very close. Sarah Brownlee and her SWGA player for 16 holes swapped a 1-hole lead. Sadly, on the 17th, SWGA took the match. It could not have been any closer and it was agreed that we had put in the best performance of the last few years. Well done to all who played. Following a salad lunch on arrival the ladies headed out to play 12 singles matches in warm but blustery conditions. Parts of the course have been remodelled over the winter and although the new holes are finished they are not yet open for play. The match was followed by a very good dinner in the Clubhouse which was much enjoyed by all. In the absence of Clare Weatherill there was some re-organisation of the pairings with Claire Johnson playing for the home team to make up five matches for the morning. The weather was wet and windy so it was agreed that if any match wished to finish after nine holes they might do so. Hilary Wynter had kindly offered to organise a round at Thorpeness for those who wished it and in the end Hilary, Caroline Theyer, Ellie Evans and Claire Gearing had a very enjoyable game in much better-than-expected weather. The Legals were drawn against the LMGS in the morning. Despite staggered starts on various tees the morning round was fairly slow but the golf was very competitive. The LLGA team was led out by Sara Reston followed by Ann Cockroft, Jemma Ralph, Pippa Lark, Becca Atkins, Sarah Brownlee and Sarah Rosevear. However, the heavens opened unexpectedly at the tail end of some of the matches and a heavy deluge resulted in flooded greens. Hilary Wynter, who replaced Sarah Rosevear in the afternoon session, was therefore called in and the LLGA conceded victory to the USLGA.
